Exploring Consensus for AI-Powered Academic Searching (OSU Free Trial Available)
Consensus, an AI-powered search engine designed specifically for exploring academic literature, is available through a free trial to OSU students, faculty, and staff through September 30, 2026. Simply use your @okstate email to register for an account.
Join us for an hour-long online workshop demonstrating how to use Consensus. Consensus searches over 200 million peer-reviewed papers from sources like Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex, and PubMed, then uses generative AI in an attempt to generate cited summaries and syntheses of the findings. This hands-on workshop will show you how to craft effective search queries, use advanced filters to refine results by date of publication, study design, and other criteria, and leverage unique features like the Consensus Meter for yes/no questions. Whether you're beginning a new research project, writing a literature review, or seeking evidence-based answers, this workshop will help you determine if Consensus can be a useful tool for your purpose.
Learning Outcomes:
-
Explain how Consensus attempts to retrieve and summarize peer-reviewed literature using AI
-
Apply search strategies and specialized features like the Consensus Meter, "Deep Search" and advanced filters to your research workflow
-
Determine if, when, and how to use Consensus effectively as part of your research process
