Introduction to Git and GitHub

This workshop will be offered in two half day sessions. In the first session, we will cover the basics of using Git to track versions of coding projects, including understanding version control and tracking changes, ignoring files, and exploring version history. The second session will explore using the popular GitHub platform for collaboration. We will describe the mechanics of pull requests, forking, resolving conflicts, and other GitHub functions. The session will conclude with a discussion on the relationship between version control and open science; licensing your code and data; and using GitHub Pages to create website for your projects.
