Patents Online: Supplement Your Teaching and Research

Patents have more detailed information about a technology than any other type of scientific or technical publication. They can be used to discover new areas of research, for ideas to improve existing research, or to see if a product has already been developed. This course will give an introduction to patents and other types of intellectual property, teach you how to read a patent, find the full-text of a U.S. or foreign patent, how to search patents comprehensively by subject, find patents issued to a company or university, and give an overview of patents in sci-tech databases. Workshop time will include hands-on activities and a Question and Answer period.
